Turning Prayer Meetings into Adventures
Out of Our Seats; Onto the Streets!
Utilize the amazing account of Peter and John in Acts 3 as a focus (praying for and in the community) and a format (stop at various verses or phrases to pray in harmony with the scripture story).
Verse 1: "One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon." >Begin with a few songs and prayers of praise for the God who has made us a temple of His Spirit. >Then petition the Lord that we would become as-we-go people of prayer; not limited to indoor prayer meetings.
Verse 2: "Now a man crippled from birth was being
carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day
to beg from those going into the temple courts." >Declare your (corporate) desire to bring prayer to those who are crippled in body and spirit. >May _____ (the church sidewalk; the corner where our church meets) become known as a beautiful place.
Verses 3-5: "When he saw Peter and John about to
enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did
John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" So the man gave them his
attention, expecting to get something from them." >Help us to recognize felt needs when we pray for others and to respond to those needs after we pray.
Verses 6-8: "Then Peter said, 'Silver or gold I do
not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, walk.' Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and
instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his
feet and began to walk." >Give us faith to believe you will release hope and help and healing and heaven through our prayers.
Verse 8b: "Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God." >Remind us Lord, that the fruit of our praying is that you receive praise and honor.
Verses 9-10: "When all the people saw him walking
and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit
begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with
wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. >Use us in
prayer to release beautiful blessings that result in our entire
community being amazed and awed at your greatness and glory!
