PRAYER FOR YOUR CHURCH

Lord, I lift up the lost members of our congregation. Let the gospel be presented to them not only through the sermon but also with power, the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. Teach us to make the most of every opportunity to share Your salvation. Help us to be the fragrance of Christ to them. We stand against the enemy and his attempts to keep them blinded to Your truth.(1 Thes. 1:5; Col. 4:5; 2 Cor. 2:15; 2 Cor. 4:4)

One of the hardest things for busy pastors to do is to find time to pray. Here’s a suggestion: why not take the first 15 to 30 minutes that you are in your church building to walk through the building and pray? This will do two things: 1). it will get you praying; and 2). it will help fuel your vision for your congregation and keep you focused on the ministry.

Here are some ideas:

Sanctuary: Pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your midst. Pray that the Word you preached last Sunday (or the Sunday to come) would take root in fertile soil. Perhaps pause and worship. Just sing praises to God.

Classrooms: pray for the discipleship of your people. Pray that they would be hungry for the truth.

Foyer/Narthex: Pray that people would come to Christ. Pray for the visitors who have come. Pray that the church would be a welcoming place for visitors.

Fellowship Hall area: Pray for the families in your church. Pray that marriages and parent-child relationships would be healthy and nurturing.

Of course pray for whatever God brings to mind.

I am a highly active (ADD-type) person. I find that my prayer life is enhanced when I do it while walking and seeing things. You may discover a new pattern that will help you bring before God the spiritual life of your church and congregation. And in the process, you may find that prayer becomes easier—and even fun.
