PRAYER FOR YOUR CHURCH

Connectivity with the church in our city

Lord, I lift up the church in our city. Thank You for creating the body as one unit made up of many parts. Help us understand the value of each part as You have arranged them. We confess that we’ve minimized other parts. Forgive us, for we are all baptized by one Spirit into one body. Help us to work at being one: concerned about one another—suffering with and rejoicing with other congregations as appropriate. (1 Cor. 12:12-26)

During our Solemn Assembly at Christ Community, the church was open daily. To help people focus, we set up prayer stations to create an atmosphere for prayer. Since the motivation for Solemn Assembly was to honor the great I AM, each prayer station would celebrate a name of God. Eight stations were provided; four on each side of the sanctuary.

We designed large posters that looked like scrolls and hung one of the following at each prayer station.

  • The Lord Is Your Healer: “But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isa. 43:5).
  • The Lord Is Your Provider: “He provided redemption for His people” (Ps. 111:9).
  • The Lord Is Your Banner: “His banner over me is love” (S of S. 2:4).
  • The Lord Is Your Shepherd: “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want” (Ps. 23:1).
  • The Lord Is Your Righteousness: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” (Mt. 5:6).
  • The Lord Is Your Sanctifier: “May God Himself, the God of Peace, sanctify you through and through” (1 Thess. 5:23).
  • The Lord Is Your Peace: “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you” (Jn. 14:27).
  • I Am The Lord Who Is There: “The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you” (Dt. 31:8).

At each station there was a place to kneel or sit, a Bible, markers and paper, and a book of Bible verses further developing that particular attribute of God. Two blank scrolls were hung on each side of the sanctuary so that visitors could write out their prayers or praises to God. The stations were meant to be places where individuals could sit quietly, pray, and let God reveal Himself. Instrumental worship music played softly in the background as seekers visited the stations.

Perhaps our scrolls are like the stones of remembrance Joshua placed in the Jordan River where the priests stood when the Israelites and the ark passed over into the promised land (Josh. 4:9). The scrolls are still hanging in our sanctuary as a reminder of Solemn Assembly and as a bold declaration of the God we serve.
