. . . we can sometimes get too organized.
I’m not against organization per se, just the notion that our four-color brochures, state-of-the-art websites, fully stocked resource centers, newly carpeted prayer rooms, 24/7 prayer meeting schedules are the essence of a successful prayer ministry. x
Truly, a successful ministry of prayer is about the praying. Is that
brochure enabling church members to apply their spiritual gift to the
mission of prayer? Are they utilizing the website to access the latest
prayer initiatives? Has anyone visited the resources center? Stopped in
to actually pray in the prayer room? Are we bringing people to the
place of prayer but not bringing prayer to the places our people are
(classes and committees, groups and gatherings, ministries and
meetings)?
Sometimes my personal life has more prayer-related activities than
real prayer. Is it possible that the Body of Christ, both local and
universal, has more prayer initiatives (all good!) than pray-ers taking
the initiative to pray. Probably not . . . but let’s make sure we keep
it that way!
